The .TCD file format is highly fragmented, serving as a container for several completely different applications. Most commonly, it functions as a proprietary CAD building services drawing created by C.A.T.S. Software or a 2D/3D drawing generated by TurboCAD. In other environments, it acts as an SQLITE database backup for the legacy Garmin Training Center, an XML layout file for iTrain model railroads, or a compressed ZIP crash dump for PC games like Tibia or Shaiya.
These files present significant workflow challenges because they are heavily vendor-locked. If you receive a .TCD CAD drawing, you typically need a paid license for the exact software and version that created it. Without it, the file is unreadable. Opening legacy Garmin database files or raw game asset data without the original engine is equally frustrating. Users usually need to convert CAD-based .TCD files to universal formats like DWG, DXF, or PDF to collaborate with external teams.
