Extract text from DesignCAD drawings (DCD)
To convert DCD drawings to another format, you need DesignCAD or other Cad software.

The .DCD file extension primarily represents a DesignCAD drawing file used for 2D and 3D architectural, mechanical, and engineering modeling. Created by IMSI Design, these files store vector graphics, layers, and 3D object data. Alternatively, a .DCD file can be a Molecular dynamics trajectory file used by scientific software like NAMD or CHARMM to record particle coordinates over time, or an Erlang Mnesia transaction log.
These proprietary files create massive friction in modern workflows. A DesignCAD .DCD file requires specialized, licensed CAD software to open properly. When sharing blueprints with clients or contractors, they often lack the tools to view the models, resulting in compatibility roadblocks. Similarly, molecular trajectory files are useless outside of specialized biophysics simulation environments.
To share these files effectively, you must convert CAD-based .DCD files to industry-standard formats like DWG or DXF for editing, or PDF and SVG for standard viewing. Unfortunately, because the .DCD format is closed and proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to read the internal vector math correctly. Often, only the original rendering engine can properly read or export the data without losing layer metadata or exact dimensions.
