About STK files
The .STK file extension is a polyglot format, meaning it serves entirely different purposes depending on the software that created it. The three most common uses are Stickfigure Animation Models, Microscopy Image Stacks, and Comic Book Archives.
1. Stickfigure Models (Pivot/Stick Nodes): Created by Pivot Animator or Stick Nodes, these files contain vector instructions for jointed characters. The Problem: These are project files, not video files. You cannot upload an .STK file to YouTube, Facebook, or Instagram. Users often mistakenly try to play them in media players, resulting in errors. Conversion Solution: To share your animation, you must render the project to GIF (for loops) or MP4 (for video). To use the model in other vector tools, convert to SVG.
2. Microscopy Stacks (MetaMorph): Used by Molecular Devices MetaMorph and analyzed in ImageJ, these are essentially multi-page TIFF files used in scientific imaging. The Problem: Standard photo viewers (like Windows Photos) usually only display the first frame or fail to open the stack entirely. They are often large, uncompressed files. Conversion Solution: For publication or sharing with non-scientists, convert these stacks to standard TIFF, PDF (for document integration), or AVI (to view the stack as a timelapse video).
3. Comic & Archive Files: Some legacy readers use .STK as a compressed container for manga or comic book images. The Problem: These are proprietary and often require obsolete software like 'Korean Comic Viewer'. Conversion Solution: Convert these archives to standard CBZ, CBR, or PDF for compatibility with modern e-readers.

The STK Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STK converter.
