These files are generated directly by Salesforce and can be opened in specialized translation management tools or advanced code editors such as Notepad++.
Despite being plain text, the .STF format is incredibly fragile and frustrating to work with. It relies on strict formatting rules - such as #KEY identifiers and specific hidden tab, newline, and carriage return characters. The biggest disadvantage is that opening an .STF file directly in standard spreadsheet software almost always corrupts the data. Excel, for example, will automatically inject unwanted quotation marks around strings containing commas, completely breaking the schema and causing Salesforce imports to fail.
