About IIX files

The .iix file extension is predominantly used as an internal cache container by various enterprise and consumer applications. In the majority of cases, it functions as a screenshot image file for Matrix42 iT-CUBE, storing standard PNG data under a custom extension. Another frequent use case involves JPG images generated by IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook or iManage Work 10. Additionally, communication apps like WhatsApp use the extension to secretly cache MP4 media files.

These files exist to manage media internally without cluttering the user's standard operating system file explorer or photo galleries. The primary disadvantage of this format is that the proprietary .iix extension breaks native OS file associations. You cannot double-click to open them, and standard image viewers or web browsers will reject the file because they rely on the extension string rather than the actual file header to determine the MIME type. This causes frustration when users attempt to recover or audit cached media.

To make these files usable outside their parent applications, you need to convert them to standard targets like PNG, JPG, or MP4. Converting to these universal formats ensures you can share, edit, and archive the media without requiring specialized enterprise software installations.

Because these files disguise standard formats under an obscure extension, many standard online converters fail to process them. Our analyzer reads the raw file header (magic bytes) to detect the underlying PNG, JPG, or MP4 structure, bypassing the misleading extension to perform a clean conversion.

Convert.Guru analyzes your IIX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PNG, ICON, JPG, PICTURE, VA_LOGO, SVG, BANNER_IMAGE_LIGHT, PTO, PDF, BANNER_IMAGE, TXT, CRDOWNLOAD and IMAGE files.

The IIX Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IIX converter.
