About IIX files
The .IIX file extension is a confusing, multi-purpose format most commonly encountered as a disguised image file generated by enterprise software suites. In over 80% of cases, an .IIX file is actually a standard PNG or JPG image that has been renamed by applications like Matrix42 (used for IT asset management) or IBM i2 Analyst's Notebook (used for visual intelligence analysis).
Because the file lacks a standard image extension, operating systems cannot generate thumbnails or open them in default viewers like Microsoft Photos or Apple Preview. Users often encounter these files in cache folders or export directories and face the frustration of "unknown file format" errors. A secondary, less common use of the extension is as a Translation Memory Index file for Trados Studio, where the file acts as a non-human-readable database index which cannot be viewed directly.
To make these files usable, the best solution is converting (or properly identifying) them as their underlying image formats. For general viewing and web use, convert to JPG or PNG. For documentation and archiving within IT reports, converting to PDF ensures the image remains viewable across all platforms without requiring the original proprietary software.
Convert.Guru analyzes your IIX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted PNG, ICON, JPG, PICTURE, VA_LOGO, SVG, BANNER_IMAGE_LIGHT, PTO, PDF, BANNER_IMAGE, TXT, CRDOWNLOAD and IMAGE files.
The IIX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our IIX converter.
