Convert STB to another file type
To convert STB Style files to another format, you need Autodesk AutoCAD or other Data software.
Convert a file to STB
To convert other file formats to the "CAD Settings & Game Data" file type, you need software like Autodesk AutoCAD or a similar tool.
About STB files
A .STB file can represent several entirely different data formats depending on its source. Primarily, it is an AutoCAD Plot Style Table used by Autodesk AutoCAD to define print settings like color, lineweight, and line patterns for technical drawings. Alternatively, it is a proprietary game data table used in titles like The Binding of Isaac or Star Wars: The Old Republic. It is also frequently encountered as a proprietary Dental X-ray image file created by Carestream Dental imaging software, or as an XML-based building structure data file for the ST-Bridge standard.
The main disadvantage of the .STB format is its proprietary, fragmented nature. A CAD .STB is merely a settings file, not an actual drawing, meaning you cannot open it as an image. Medical X-ray .STB files are locked behind expensive, specialized medical imaging software, preventing patients from viewing their own health records easily. Game .STB files are typically compiled binary data that cannot be read by standard text editors.
Because these files serve internal software functions or are strictly proprietary, standard online converters usually fail to process them. CAD users often need to convert .STB to CTB (Color-dependent Plot Style), which must be done internally within AutoCAD. Gamers and modders often rely on custom community scripts to convert .STB tables into readable CSV or TXT formats. Dental patients usually have to request that their clinic exports the X-ray to JPG or standard DICOM formats.
Because this file format is difficult to open or convert, standard tools will not work. However, you can use convert.guru as a pragmatic workaround. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. We can inspect the internal data to determine if it is an XML file, a CAD plot style, or an image. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your STB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert STB file to CTB, BBL, SCF, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, XML, YAML, YML or TOML, you can use Autodesk AutoCAD or similar software from the "Plot Styles and Data Tables" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to STB, try Autodesk AutoCAD or another comparable tool in the "Plot Styles and Data Tables" category.
The STB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our STB converter.
