The .SMM file extension is most frequently associated with the now-discontinued S Memo application found on older Samsung Android devices, such as the Galaxy S3. These files serve as digital containers for user-created notes, which often combine typed text, hand-drawn sketches, voice recordings, and thumbnail images.
The primary challenge users face is proprietary lock-in. The S Memo app was replaced by S Note and later Samsung Notes, rendering the original .SMM format largely obsolete and unsupported on modern smartphones (like the Galaxy S24) or desktop operating systems.
