Convert a file to CPR
To convert other file formats to the "DAW Project File" file type, you need software like Steinberg Cubase or a similar tool.
About CPR files
The .CPR file extension is most commonly associated with Cubase Project Files created by Steinberg Cubase, a major Digital Audio Workstation (DAW). These files store session data, track arrangements, mixer settings, and MIDI sequences. Crucially, they do not contain raw audio data. Instead, they reference external audio files stored locally on your hard drive. A secondary widespread use for .CPR is as a project file for CEWE Photoworld, which stores layouts for custom printed photo books and calendars.
The main disadvantage of .CPR files is their highly closed, proprietary nature. A Cubase .CPR file cannot be imported into competing DAWs like Ableton Live or Logic Pro. Furthermore, without the original referenced audio folder, the project is effectively useless. You usually need an expensive Cubase license to open, play, or export the track. Similarly, CEWE photo book projects are locked into the printing company's specific ecosystem.
Users typically want to convert Cubase .CPR files to standard audio formats like WAV, MP3, or MID to share their music or collaborate. CEWE users often want to export their layouts to standard PDF documents to share a draft before printing.
Because these formats are proprietary project files rather than media files, standard online audio or document converters fail completely. They cannot process a session file as if it were a flat audio track or standard document. Often, only the original software can properly read the layout and export the data. We can identify the file format, inspect the internal headers, and show embedded text. If our analysis detects a supported underlying structure, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your CPR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert CPR file to SMM, MP3, PSA, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG, WMA, M4A, AIFF, OPUS or ALAC, you can use Steinberg Cubase or similar software from the "Audio Project Data Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MIDI, AAC, TTA, AU, WV, DTS, MID, FLAC, RA, MP3, PCM or WAV files to CPR, try Steinberg Cubase or another comparable tool in the "Audio Project Data Storage" category.
The CPR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our CPR converter.
