About SITE files
A .SITE file is most often a Salesforce Experience Cloud site definition file. Unlike standard HTML web pages, this file is not designed to be opened in a web browser like Chrome or Firefox. Instead, it contains raw JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) data that defines the structure, themes, and component routes of a Salesforce community or portal. Users often encounter these files when exporting site metadata for backup or migration. Because they are configuration files rather than displayable content, trying to double-click them results in an error. To view the internal settings, you must convert or rename the file to JSON or TXT and open it in a code editor like VS Code.
In data science environments, a .SITE file (specifically Rprofile.site) acts as a global configuration script for the R Programming Language. These are plain text scripts that run automatically on startup to set environment variables and library paths. Legacy users might also encounter .SITE files created by Adobe GoLive, an obsolete web authoring tool; these project files are proprietary and difficult to open without the original 1990s software, though text content can sometimes be salvaged using a hex editor.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SITE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SITE file to MP3, PDF, APP, APK, TEXT, HTML, MARKDOWN, CSV, JSON, XML, YAML or YML, you can use Salesforce Experience Cloud or similar software from the "Experience Cloud Site Definition" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to SITE, try Salesforce Experience Cloud or another comparable tool in the "Experience Cloud Site Definition" category.
The SITE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SITE converter.
