About RGX files

The .rgx file extension serves two entirely different purposes in the digital world. Most commonly, it acts as a Magic Bullet Looks color grading preset created by Red Giant (currently owned by Maxon). Video editors use these files to store specific color grades, camera lens effects, and cinematic styles. Alternatively, an .rgx file can be a robotic workcell simulation project generated by FANUC Roboguide. Users frequently struggle with these files because they are tightly locked into expensive, proprietary ecosystems. Magic Bullet presets demand an active plugin subscription to function and do not import natively into standard color grading tools like DaVinci Resolve. Meanwhile, Roboguide files demand heavy, specialized industrial software just to view the data. Converting a Magic Bullet .rgx preset directly into a universal CUBE LUT is highly requested but technically impossible for standard web converters because the complex proprietary math must be rendered by the host application itself. However, under the hood, Red Giant .rgx files are written in standard JSON, while FANUC Roboguide files utilize standard ZIP compression.
