About SHA1 files
A .SHA1 file generally serves one of two distinct purposes, creating a unique challenge for users trying to open or convert it. Most commonly, it is a text-based checksum file generated by utilities like sha1sum or MultiHasher to verify file integrity. These files contain a hexadecimal string that acts as a digital fingerprint; they are not the actual data files (like an ISO or ZIP) but merely the receipt that proves the data hasn't been corrupted. Users often struggle because they expect the .sha1 file to contain the software or media they downloaded, rather than just a verification hash. To view this data, the most practical conversion is to TXT.
However, in a specific legacy gaming context, a .sha1 file is actually a renamed RIFF video file used by Monolith Productions for the game F.E.A.R.. In this scenario, the file is a standard video disguised with a different extension to manage game assets. Users cannot open these with standard media players because the extension doesn't map to a codec. For these files, the best conversion target is MP4 or AVI to restore playback compatibility with modern tools like VLC media player.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SHA1 file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert SHA1 file to TEXT, MD5, SHA256, HEX, BASE64, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA or PGP, you can use Notepad++ or similar software from the "File Integrity Verification" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to SHA1, try Notepad++ or another comparable tool in the "File Integrity Verification" category.
The SHA1 Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SHA1 converter.
