About SCAR files
A .scar file primarily functions as an e-learning resource package used by the Scenari authoring platform. Internally, this dominant version is just a renamed ZIP archive that bundles educational web content, images, and data. Alternatively, a .scar file can be a plain text game logic script used by Relic Entertainment for strategy games like Dawn of War, or a macro script for the SCAR Divi automation tool. To access the e-learning packages natively, users rely on Scenari software, but standard archive tools like 7-Zip can also open them. Game scripts require basic text editors like Notepad++. Users frequently struggle with the .scar format because it is highly specialized and completely unrecognized by standard operating systems or web browsers. The e-learning variant traps valuable assets inside a proprietary extension, forcing users to install specific authoring tools. The script variant is equally stubborn, remaining useless outside its specific game engine ecosystem. You should convert the e-learning .scar files by extracting them to ZIP to safely access the internal XML, HTML, and media files. Script variants are best converted to TXT or LUA for easier code review, though you will lose any IDE-specific syntax highlighting. Because these files share the exact same extension but serve wildly different purposes (binary archives versus plain text code), generic online converters fail miserably. They cannot guess which type of .scar file you uploaded or parse the internal Scenari structures. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the true format, view its internal text or archive contents, and extract it when possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your SCAR file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The SCAR Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our SCAR converter.
