Introduced with the iWork '13 update, these files replaced older XML-based structures to improve performance on mobile devices. An .IWA file stores the actual content of your document - such as text, layout metadata, and style sheets - encoded as a Protocol Buffers (Protobuf) stream and compressed using Google's Snappy algorithm.
