About RWP files
The .RWP file is most commonly a 3D point cloud project generated by Trimble RealWorks. These files store massive spatial datasets collected from 3D laser scanners used in surveying, construction, and civil engineering. Alternatively, PC gamers frequently encounter .RWP files as add-on packages for Train Simulator Classic (formerly RailWorks), which contain compressed custom routes, locomotives, and scenery. It is also occasionally used as a site package by Mac web developers using RapidWeaver.
The major disadvantage of the .RWP format in a 3D context is its heavily proprietary nature. These project files often exceed tens or hundreds of gigabytes and are completely locked into the Trimble ecosystem. You cannot open a Trimble .RWP file natively in web browsers, standard CAD software like AutoCAD, or open-source viewing tools without an expensive, specialized license. Game-related .RWP files are essentially renamed archive files, but without the correct game utility, everyday users cannot easily extract the modifications locked inside.
To share 3D laser scan data across different platforms, users must export the .RWP workspace into standard, interoperable formats like LAS, E57, or PTS. These targets reliably preserve the XYZ spatial coordinates and point color data, but will drop Trimble-specific project settings, measurements, or custom annotations. For Train Simulator packages, converting or renaming the file to a standard ZIP or RAR allows for the manual extraction of the game assets.
Because the 3D .RWP is a closed, proprietary workspace container, standard online converters consistently fail to process it. Often, only the original Trimble software can properly read or export the billions of data points. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format - such as a standard ZIP archive structure in the case of Train Simulator packages - viewing or extraction may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RWP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RWP file to HTML, HTM, CSS, JS, PHP, ASP, ASPX, JSP, JSPX, PY, RB or PL, you can use Trimble RealWorks or similar software from the "3D Point Cloud Project" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RSS, CSS, CGI, SITEMAP, PL, WEBMANIFEST, JSON, JS, XML, HTML, ICO or HTM files to RWP, try Trimble RealWorks or another comparable tool in the "3D Point Cloud Project" category.
The RWP Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RWP converter.
