About MTP files

The .MTP file extension is heavily fragmented and used across multiple industrial and niche applications. Most commonly, it acts as an XML-based project file for labeling software like Murrplastik M-Print PRO or Brady Workstation. In other scenarios, it functions as a compressed ZIP package for Process Automation Modules (VDI/VDE/NAMUR 2658 standard), a firmware update executable, an HMI application project, or even a Microsoft JetDB maintenance database.

Users face significant frustration with .MTP files because they are tightly locked to the specific hardware or software ecosystem that created them. These files are highly proprietary, often require expensive industrial licenses to open, and cannot be natively read by standard operating systems or web browsers. If you receive an .MTP file without knowing its exact origin, it is nearly impossible to guess which program will open it.

When looking for conversion options, your target format depends entirely on the file's internal structure. Labeling projects and automation modules often convert well to XML, ZIP, or PDF for easier viewing and sharing. Database or terminology variants might be exportable to CSV or TXT.

Standard online converters fail spectacularly with .MTP files because they cannot parse the dozens of different internal formats sharing this single extension. Because this file format is notoriously difficult to open or convert, often requiring the original industrial software to properly read or export the data, automated conversion is rarely straightforward. Our system will inspect the file, identify its true internal signature (whether it is an XML, ZIP, EXE, or JetDB file), and show you the underlying text or content. If our analysis detects a supported embedded format, viewing or conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MTP file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MTP2, PAYSLIP_SEPTEMBER, MP3, MTS, PDF, WAV, TXT, JPG, ZIP, BWS and MP4 files.

The MTP Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MTP converter.
