To convert other file formats to the "Resource Archive" file type, you need software like Age of Wonders or a similar tool.
The .RPK file type represents a broad category of data containers, primarily serving as a Game Resource Package for titles like Age of Wonders: Planetfall, Mount & Blade, and Spore. In these contexts, the format is a proprietary archive bundling 3D models, textures, audio, and scripts to ensure smooth gameplay performance. Users often encounter these files when attempting to mod a game or extract specific assets (like a soundtrack or character skin) but hit a wall because standard archivers cannot read the proprietary compression.
Beyond gaming, the extension is utilized by Esri CityEngine for Rule Packages and Huawei HarmonyOS for Rich Ability Packages. These variations are often standard compressed archives disguised with a different extension. This creates confusion: a user might try to open a game RPK with WinRAR and fail, while an Esri RPK would open perfectly if renamed. To solve this, users need to identify the origin. For CityEngine and HarmonyOS, the best conversion path is to rename the file to ZIP or 7Z to access the contents. For game files, generic conversion is impossible; you must use game-specific extraction tools to "convert" the internal assets into usable formats like PNG images, WAV audio, or OBJ 3D models.
