The .rtk file extension serves two distinct purposes. Most commonly, it functions as a Recipe data backup file used by mobile and desktop applications like Recipe Keeper or RecetteTek. These backups are secretly standard ZIP archives containing XML data, SQLite databases, and saved images of recipes. Alternatively, an .rtk file is a GNSS RTK survey data file. Surveying software such as EGStar or SurPad generates these files to store highly precise Real-Time Kinematic GPS coordinates and project data.
Users often need to convert recipe .rtk files to share their culinary collections with non-users or to migrate data away from a specific app. The main disadvantage is that these backups lock your personal data into a proprietary ecosystem. Some apps even require paid subscriptions to sync this data across devices.
