Convert ROT to another file type

To convert your ROT file to another format, you need TRUMPF TruTops or other Cad software.

Convert a file to ROT

To convert other file formats to the "Laser Cutting CAM File" file type, you need software like TRUMPF TruTops or a similar tool.

About ROT files

The .ROT file extension is most prominently associated with Tube CAD designs generated by TRUMPF TruTops software. These files are highly specialized Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) data containers used specifically for controlling laser tube cutting machinery. Unlike standard DXF or DWG files that store pure geometry, a .ROT file often includes machine-specific instructions for the rotary axis, cutting parameters, and nesting data.

A major limitation for users is the proprietary lock-in. Because .ROT files are optimized for TRUMPF hardware, they are effectively "black boxes" to standard engineering software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks. You typically cannot simply double-click to view the part geometry without an expensive TruTops license. This creates a bottleneck when design engineers need to verify a cut file but lack access to the manufacturing floor's software.

To bridge this gap, the recommended workflow is converting the geometry to widely supported formats. For checking 2D profiles or sending data to different machines, converting to DXF or DWG is ideal. For archiving 3D representations of the processed tube, STEP or IGES files are the industry standard. Be aware that converting a .ROT file to a generic CAD format usually extracts only the geometric shape, stripping away the proprietary machine technology tables (e.g., laser power settings or gas pressure).

Note: A small minority of .ROT files are legacy graphics assets used in Homeworld 2 by Sierra Entertainment, specifically for handling object rotation or particle definitions.

Convert.Guru analyzes your ROT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted TXT, JPG, CF2, GSM and SEV files.

FAQ

If you want to convert ROT file to BASE64, HEX, BIN, ENC, CRYPT, AES, DES, RSA, PGP, GPG, ASC or KEY, you can use TRUMPF TruTops or similar software from the "Tube CAD Design" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

To convert CER, BIN, PEM, DER, KEY, P7S, PFX, ENC, P12, BASE64, P7B or HEX files to ROT, try TRUMPF TruTops or another comparable tool in the "Tube CAD Design" category.

The ROT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ROT converter.
