About RM files

The .RM file is a RealMedia multimedia container format developed by RealNetworks specifically for streaming media over the internet. Once the standard for dial-up streaming in the late 1990s and early 2000s, it typically holds audio (RealAudio) and video (RealVideo) streams that can adjust bitrate dynamically.

Why convert .RM files?
Because the format is largely obsolete, users face significant hurdles accessing this content today. The primary disadvantage is proprietary lock-in; .RM files usually require RealPlayer or specific codec packs (like Real Alternative) to play, as they are not natively supported by modern default players like QuickTime or Windows Media Player.
