Convert a file to MRL

To convert other file formats to the "Markup or Rule Script" file type, you need software like Sublime Text or a similar tool.

About MRL files

A .MRL file typically functions as a plain-text script, storing code written in either the Multimedia Retrieval Markup Language (MRML) or the Master Rule Language. In multimedia contexts, it defines XML-based protocols for querying servers for images based on specific content parameters. In IT environments, it stores event logic and collection rules for BMC Software management platforms like TrueSight.

These files can be opened and edited using standard code editors like Sublime Text or Notepad++. Because they are heavily developer-centric, their raw contents are practically unreadable to average end-users.

The biggest disadvantage of the .MRL format is its strict, domain-specific syntax. Without the underlying server environment or an enterprise query engine to compile it, the code is inert and cannot be executed. Standard text processors might open the file, but they lack the ability to validate the specific markup or logic rules.

If you need to share or document the code logic, converting .MRL to TXT, XML, or JSON is highly recommended. While the underlying scripting logic cannot be automatically translated into a different programming language, converting to a standard text format makes the raw code universally readable across any device or browser.

This file format is often difficult to process because the proprietary syntax is meant exclusively for specific server software. Our platform can inspect the file, extract the raw text or XML structure, and help you view or convert the readable code inside.

Convert.Guru analyzes your MRL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted MP4, CLIPCHAMP, MKV, MOV, AVI, RM, IFO, MP3, WFP, MTS, XSPF, M3U8 and TXT files.

The MRL Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MRL converter.
