About RBXMX files
A .RBXMX file is a 3D model, script, or game asset saved in an XML-based format for use within Roblox Studio. Unlike the binary RBXM format, this text-based variant allows developers to track changes in version control systems like Git, making it essential for collaborative teams. However, this human-readability comes at a cost: .RBXMX files are significantly larger than their binary counterparts, which can slow down game loading times if used in final production.
Because the format is strictly proprietary to the Roblox engine, standard 3D tools like Blender or Autodesk Maya cannot natively open them. Users often encounter friction when trying to extract geometry for external rendering or when file sizes exceed the limits of source control repositories. For final game distribution, it is best to convert .RBXMX to the compressed RBXM format. To edit the 3D geometry in external software, you must typically import the file into Roblox Studio and export the selection as OBJ or FBX. For quick debugging of scripts or properties, converting - or simply renaming - the file to XML allows you to view the raw data in any text editor.
Convert.Guru analyzes your RBXMX file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert RBXMX file to PNG, EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP or SAV, you can use Roblox Studio or similar software from the "Roblox Game Asset" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert MOD, BIN, CFG, SCX, DAT, MPQ, LOG, CUE, INI, EXE, SCM or ISO files to RBXMX, try Roblox Studio or another comparable tool in the "Roblox Game Asset" category.
The RBXMX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our RBXMX converter.
