About QSD files
The .qsd extension represents a frustrating fork in the road for users: it is either a legacy financial data file or a specialized scientific dataset.
1. Legacy Quicken Data (Intuit): For most users, a .qsd file is a relic from Quicken 2004 or earlier (including Quicken 5/6 for Windows). In these older versions, Quicken split your financial database into multiple files (Primary Data .qdf, Support Data .qsd, etc.). The Problem: Modern versions of Quicken (2010+) use a single QDF container and cannot directly open a loose .qsd file without its accompanying qdf and qel siblings. Even worse, if you only saved the .qsd, your data might be incomplete. To convert this, you typically need to install an "intermediate" version of Quicken (like Quicken 2004 or 2013), typically available from Quicken Support, to "convert up" the file before you can export it to Excel (.XLSX) or CSV.
2. Q-Sense QSoft Data (Biolin Scientific): In scientific circles, the .qsd format stores data from Quartz Crystal Microbalance with Dissipation (QCM-D) instruments. These files contain real-time measurements of mass, thickness, and viscoelastic properties generated by QSoft software. The Friction: These are proprietary binary files designed for analysis within the Biolin Scientific ecosystem. They cannot be opened in standard text editors. Users usually need to export the raw data to TXT or CSV from within QSoft to analyze it in MATLAB or Python.
Convert.Guru analyzes your QSD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
Users also converted QDF, QXD, JPG, TXF, GKX and QSM files.
The QSD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QSD converter.
