Convert a file to QSD

To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Data File" file type, you need software like Intuit Quicken or a similar tool.

About QSD files

The .QSD file format is primarily used as a proprietary data file generated by Intuit Quicken for Windows. It stores a user's local financial records, including transaction history, budgets, account balances, and investment portfolios. Alternatively, in scientific contexts, .QSD files function as Quartz Crystal Microbalance data files created by Q-Sense QSoft software to record frequency and dissipation data from molecular binding experiments.

These files are heavily proprietary and designed for vendor lock-in. The Quicken .QSD format poses severe limitations for users who want to migrate to alternative personal finance software like YNAB or Moneydance. It requires an active Quicken subscription to open properly, is not natively supported by web browsers, and cannot be read by generic spreadsheet tools.

When migrating financial data, you should aim to export or convert .QSD files to standardized formats like CSV (Comma-Separated Values), QIF (Quicken Interchange Format), or OFX / QFX (Open Financial Exchange). These formats are universally accepted by modern accounting tools. For Q-Sense scientific data, converting to CSV or TXT is essential for analysis in statistical software. Be aware that direct conversion from the raw file might strip custom proprietary formatting or metadata.

Because .QSD files use closed, proprietary database structures, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original Quicken or QSoft software can properly read or export the data. However, you can drag and drop your file into convert.guru to identify the exact format version, inspect the file, and show text or internal content. If our analysis detects a supported underlying or embedded format, viewing or partial conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your QSD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted QDF, QXD, JPG, TXF, GKX and QSM files.

The QSD Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our QSD converter.
