Convert a file to OFX
To convert other file formats to the "Financial Exchange Format" file type, you need software like Intuit Quicken or a similar tool.
About OFX files
An .OFX (Open Financial Exchange) file is a standardized format used by banks and financial institutions to export transaction history for use in personal finance software like Intuit Quicken or Microsoft Money.
While .OFX is the gold standard for importing data, it presents significant usability challenges for the average user. Because the file consists of raw XML or SGML structured text, it is not designed to be human-readable. You cannot simply double-click an .OFX file to view your bank statement in Microsoft Excel or print it for tax records; doing so often opens a code editor displaying confusing tags rather than a ledger. Furthermore, older financial software may reject newer OFX versions, creating compatibility dead-ends.
To overcome these limitations, users should convert .OFX files based on their immediate needs. For budgeting and analysis in spreadsheets, the best target is CSV or XLSX. For archiving, printing, or sharing with accountants who do not use specialized software, converting to PDF ensures a consistent, readable layout. Users migrating to legacy software may also need to convert .OFX to QIF. Simply drag and drop your file to convert.guru to parse the transaction data and export it to your required format.
*(Note: In rare cases related to video editing, an .OFX file may be an OpenFX plugin used by software like DaVinci Resolve. These are executable libraries and cannot be converted to document formats.)*
Use Convert.Guru to open and convert your OFX file.
If you want to convert OFX file to CSV, QFX, QBO, QIF, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI or CFG, you can use Intuit Quicken or similar software from the "Financial Transaction Data Exchange" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert DBF, XML, SQLITE, XLSX, SQL, TSV, ACCDB, YAML, MDB, CSV, ODS or JSON files to OFX, try Intuit Quicken or another comparable tool in the "Financial Transaction Data Exchange" category.
The OFX Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OFX converter.
