About TXF files

The .TXF (Tax Exchange Format) is a legacy standard originally developed by Intuit to facilitate the transfer of financial data - specifically capital gains and loss reports - from brokerage accounts into tax preparation software like TurboTax and Quicken. While useful for automation, .TXF files are essentially structured ASCII text files filled with header codes (e.g., ^, N, D) that are difficult for humans to read or verify manually.

A significant source of friction is that modern web-based tax platforms often phase out direct .TXF uploads in favor of direct API connections or CSV imports, leaving users with legacy files they cannot easily view or utilize. Additionally, the extension is ambiguous; a .TXF file might occasionally be a compiled font texture from Celestia or a renamed MPEG-4 video stream from a DVR security system.

For financial data, the best workflow is converting .TXF to CSV or XLSX (Excel) to audit transactions before filing, or to PDF for long-term rigid archiving. If the file is a graphics asset (Texture Font), converting to PNG allows for standard image viewing.

Convert.Guru analyzes your TXF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted CSV, TXT, TFX, DXF, TSX, QSD, GKX, QSM and PDF files.
