Extract text from Prism projects (PZFX)

The .PZFX file is an XML-based project document used primarily by GraphPad Prism, a popular software application for scientific 2D graphing, biostatistics, and curve fitting. These files store a complete record of a scientific workspace, linking raw data tables directly to statistical analyses, generated graphs, and final page layouts. Unlike the older, binary PZF format, .PZFX stores its underlying data using standard XML formatting.
Despite its utility in the laboratory, sharing a .PZFX file is highly impractical. The format is strictly proprietary and tightly bound to the GraphPad ecosystem. Anyone receiving the file needs an active, often expensive, software subscription to view the charts or verify the statistics. Furthermore, academic publishers and standard web platforms do not accept .PZFX files directly. The visual data remains locked in a format that standard web browsers and word processors like Microsoft Word cannot naturally render.
To make your scientific data and charts accessible, you must convert the file based on your end goal. For academic publication or precise archiving, convert the layouts to PDF or EPS. For web publishing or slideshow presentations, convert the graphs to high-resolution PNG or TIFF files. If you only need to rescue the raw numbers, you can extract the data tables into a standard CSV file.
