About PXF files

The .PXF file extension primarily denotes a Pulse Embroidery Design file used by Tajima DG/ML. These files store vector-based outline data, thread colors, and stitch generation parameters for commercial embroidery machines. A secondary use for the .PXF extension is as an XML parameter file for Siemens Valor PCB manufacturing software or as project files for Transit XV.

The main disadvantage of the .PXF format is its closed, proprietary nature. It requires highly specialized and expensive commercial software to open, edit, or view. You cannot preview these files natively in Windows or macOS, and standard web browsers or image viewers cannot read the stitch data. Users are essentially locked into the Tajima ecosystem.

To manufacture the design on a different brand of embroidery machine, you must convert the file to a standard machine format. The best conversion targets are DST (the universal Tajima machine format), PES (Brother), or EXP (Melco). Be aware that converting from .PXF (an outline file) to DST (a machine file) results in a permanent loss of the original vector object data; the output file will only contain raw mechanical X/Y stitch coordinates.

Standard online image or vector converters fail to process .PXF files because translating proprietary outline parameters into machine stitch calculations requires the original rendering engine. Because this is a closed format, often only the original software can properly read or export the data. If our analysis detects the underlying XML structure used by the PCB variants, viewing or conversion to CSV or standard XML may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PXF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PFX, DST, EMB, JPG, DXF, PDF, PNG, DGT, JPEG, ACB, OFM, SVG and INP files.

The PXF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PXF converter.
