To convert other file formats to the "Embroidery Project File" file type, you need software like Tajima DG/ML or a similar tool.
A .PXF file is primarily a Pulse Embroidery Project file, the native format used by Tajima DG/ML by Pulse software. Unlike machine-ready formats (like DST), .PXF files store the "source code" of a design - including vector outlines, stitch settings, density controls, and color palettes. This allows professional digitizers to resize and edit designs without losing stitch quality. However, this high level of detail creates significant compatibility friction; most commercial embroidery machines (such as those from Brother or Janome) cannot read .PXF files directly, and opening them requires expensive, proprietary licensing from Tajima. Users frequently need to convert .PXF files to DST, PES, or EXP for production, or to PDF/PNG for client approval sheets.
In rare cases (approx. 1%), a .PXF file may be a PCB Manufacturing Data file associated with Siemens (formerly Mentor Graphics) Valor software, used for exchanging circuit board schematics. These are text-based XML files rather than binary embroidery data.
