About DGT files

A .DGT file is primarily associated with Tajima DG/ML by Pulse, a high-end industrial embroidery software suite. These files contain complex vector-based wireframe data, stitch coordinates, and machine commands (trims, color changes, stops) specifically optimized for Tajima embroidery machines.

The biggest obstacle with .DGT files is their proprietary environment. Unlike the more universal DST (Tajima Stitch) format, a .DGT is often a "working file" that retains editable vector properties, meaning it cannot be read directly by non-Tajima machines (like Brother or Janome) or opened in standard graphic apps like Adobe Illustrator without expensive plugins. Users frequently encounter these files when receiving designs from professional digitizers but lack the $2,000+ software license (and physical security dongle) required to view or edit them.

For production, the best workflow is converting .DGT to DST (industry standard for almost all commercial machines) or PES (for Brother/Babylock home machines). For approval and viewing, converting to PDF or PNG allows you to visualize the stitch simulation without needing specialized CAD tools. Note: A minority of .DGT files (approx. 16%) may be encrypted data files from the Mettl online assessment platform, which are strictly locked and cannot be converted.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DGT file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted DST, IN_RESULT, EMB, JEF, PXF, PES, JPEG, PDF, PNG, JPG, INP, ZIP and SVG files.

The DGT Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DGT converter.
