About ACB files
The .ACB file extension represents several completely different formats depending on its source. Most frequently, it is a CRI Middleware ADX2 Game Audio Archive. Game developers use this proprietary format to pack thousands of sound effects, music tracks, and voice lines into a single, highly compressed container. Alternatively, graphic designers and print professionals encounter .ACB as an Adobe Color Book file. Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator use these files to store standardized, industry-specific color palettes, such as Pantone libraries. Finally, AutoCAD relies on the same extension for its own color books, though AutoCAD versions are structured as readable XML data.
The primary disadvantage of an .ACB file is its proprietary, fragmented nature. If you have an audio archive, you cannot play it in standard media players. The audio tracks are locked inside a complex binary structure - often referencing external AWB files - requiring specialized extraction tools to unpack the audio into standard WAV or MP3 files. Likewise, Adobe color books lock users into a subscription ecosystem; they cannot be natively viewed in web browsers or standard text editors. You must convert these palettes to ASE or CSV to share them across different design platforms.
Because these formats rely on complex binary structures or specialized application logic, standard online converters usually fail to process them. Often, only the original software or dedicated community extraction tools can properly read or export the data. Our platform will inspect the file to determine if it is an audio archive, an Adobe palette, or an AutoCAD XML file. If our engine detects supported embedded streams or plain text, extraction and conversion may still be possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ACB file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ACB file to ASE, ACO, WAV, XML, INI, CFG, CONF, CONFIG, JSON, YAML, YML or TOML, you can use CRI ADX2 or similar software from the "Game Audio Archive & Colors" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert ZSHRC, CONF, RCFILE, GITCONFIG, RC, PLIST, BASHRC, CONFIG, PROFILE, INI, PREFS or CFG files to ACB, try CRI ADX2 or another comparable tool in the "Game Audio Archive & Colors" category.
The ACB Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ACB converter.
