About PTO files

The .pto extension most commonly identifies a Hugin Project File, a text-based configuration file used by the open-source Hugin software to stitch multiple overlapping photos into a seamless panorama. A frequent point of confusion is that this file does not contain the actual image data; it is merely a script containing lens parameters, control points, and file paths pointing to the source images on your hard drive. If you send a .pto file to a friend without the original source photos (e.g., JPG or TIFF), they will see nothing but an error. To get a viewable image, you must open the project in Hugin and "render" or "stitch" it to a standard format like JPG or TIFF. Additionally, .pto is used by Hudl (formerly BlueFrame Technology) for Production Truck Overlays. These are ZIP-compressed archives containing broadcast graphics (usually PNG sequences) and XML definitions. If you need to access the raw graphic assets from a Production Truck file without the software, you can often simply rename the file extension from .pto to zip and extract the contents.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PTO file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted IIX, JPG, MPP, PRJPCB and RLD files.
