About PTG files

PTG (Portable Graphics) is a file format that is used to store bitmap and vector images. It is a proprietary format developed by the company Xara, and is mainly used in their Xara Xtreme and Xara Designer Pro software. PTG files are not widely used, and are not supported by many other programs. As such, it is often necessary to convert PTG files into other formats.

The most common way to convert PTG files is to use the software provided by Xara. Xara Xtreme and Xara Designer Pro both have the ability to export PTG files to other formats such as JPEG, PNG, and PDF. Additionally, there are a few third-party programs that can be used to convert PTG files, such as GraphicsGale and IrfanView. It is important to note that PTG files may contain both bitmap and vector elements, and the conversion process may not be able to preserve the vector elements of the image.

In addition to the potential loss of vector elements, there are a few other drawbacks to using PTG files. PTG files are not widely supported, and are not compatible with many other programs. Additionally, PTG files are not as widely used as other formats such as JPEG and PNG, and therefore may not be as easy to share with others. For these reasons, it may be best to convert PTG files to other formats using a free and easy online website such as Convert.Guru.

The PTG Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began more than 25 years ago in California, when Tom Simondi published the most comprehensive database of file formats on his website. Before that, Tom had worked on Space Shuttle development at the Air Force Systems Command’s Space Division in Los Angeles. He is known as one of the top programmers of the late 1980s.

When Microsoft integrated Tom’s Filext database into Windows XP, it became the leading platform for analyzing and processing file types and formats.

Today, we use the latest technologies to analyze, process, and convert one of the world's largest collections of file formats. We are committed to developing the best PTG converter by continuously improving quality, usability, and reliability.
