About PROCREATE files

A .procreate file is the native project format for Procreate, the industry-leading digital painting application developed by Savage Interactive for the iPad. This format acts as a container (technically a ZIP archive) that stores critical project data, including multiple pixel layers, blend modes, masks, and the proprietary time-lapse video recording of the creation process. While excellent for iPad workflows, the format is a significant bottleneck for cross-platform collaboration. Because it is strictly proprietary to the Apple ecosystem, .procreate files cannot be natively opened on Windows, Android, or even macOS without the specific app installed. Users often find themselves stuck with a file they cannot view after transferring it to a desktop for archiving or final delivery. The file size can also be massive due to the embedded 4K time-lapse video, making transfers cumbersome. To bypass these limitations, the pragmatic move is converting the file. For preserving layers and editing capabilities in desktop software like Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo, converting to PSD is the gold standard. For quick viewing, web galleries, or client proofs, converting to a flattened PNG or JPG is necessary.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PROCREATE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BRUSHSET, PSD, PNG, PROCREATE 2, PROCREATE COPY, ZIP, PDF, SWATCHES, JPEG, LZ4, ARCHIVE, FLP and MP4 files.

The PROCREATE Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PROCREATE converter.
