About PROCREATE files
The .procreate file format is a proprietary digital artwork container created exclusively by the Procreate app for iOS and iPadOS. It stores multi-layered high-resolution drawings, custom brush settings, blending modes, and time-lapse video recording data.
This format presents significant real-world challenges because it is strictly bound to the Apple hardware ecosystem. It is proprietary and requires the specific Procreate app to open fully. You cannot open a .procreate file natively on Windows, Android, macOS, or standard web browsers. It effectively locks your layered artwork into a single mobile device. Sharing these raw files with clients or non-iPad users is impossible without prior export.
To share your work for desktop editing, you must convert it. The most robust target format is PSD (Adobe Photoshop) to preserve your layer hierarchy and blending modes. For standard viewing or web use, PNG or JPG are the best targets. Be aware that some specialized Procreate text effects or custom procedural brush renderings may flatten or rasterize when exported to PSD.
Standard online converters usually fail with .procreate files because the internal rendering logic is closed-source. However, under the hood, a .procreate file is actually structured as a ZIP archive. Just drag and drop your file onto convert.guru to identify the format and inspect the file. Because our analysis detects the underlying ZIP structure, we can often extract the embedded preview image (QuickLook thumbnail) so you can at least view your artwork, and facilitate conversions where supported.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PROCREATE file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert PROCREATE file to SVG, PSD, CMYK, JPG, PDF, PNG, GIF, BMP, TIFF, TIF, WEBP or ICO, you can use Procreate or similar software from the "Digital Painting Artwork Storage" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert RAW, PNG, AI, NEF, PSB, DNG, SVG, GIF, EPS, JPG, ARW or PDF files to PROCREATE, try Procreate or another comparable tool in the "Digital Painting Artwork Storage" category.
The PROCREATE Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PROCREATE converter.
