About PPL files

The .PPL file extension primarily acts as a layered graphic design project archive. It is most heavily utilized by PixelLab, a popular mobile application for adding 3D text and graphics to images, and by Photopea, a web-based image editor. These files store the active state of a workspace, including individual raster layers, vectors, typography settings, and embedded background images.

In the real world, relying on .PPL files for distribution creates major friction. It is a proprietary, closed-format archive. Standard web browsers, default operating system image viewers, and most third-party design tools cannot parse it. If you send a .PPL file to a client or colleague, they will face a "cannot open file" error unless they also install the specific originating app.

To share your final design, you must convert the .PPL file into universal formats. Target formats like PNG are ideal for maintaining background transparency, while JPG works best for compressing complex photographic layouts. However, be aware that converting to these formats "flattens" the image, meaning you will lose the ability to edit individual text or shape layers. If you need to keep layers intact outside the original app, converting to a PSD (Photoshop Document) is the best alternative.

Because this is a closed format that often functions under the hood as a custom ZIP container for raw assets, standard online converters often fail completely. They lack the specific rendering engine required to interpret the custom layout data. However, just drag and drop your file to see what it is and convert it if supported. convert.guru can identify the file format, inspect the internal file structure, and show text or embedded content. If our analysis detects the supported underlying ZIP structure, viewing or extracting the raw image layers may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PPL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PLP, PNG, 7Z, POD, HPRJ and SONG files.
