About PPF files

The .PPF file extension is a highly fragmented format used by over a dozen entirely unrelated software ecosystems. Most commonly, it acts as a Print Production Format (CIP3 standard) used by commercial printers to store ink key data. Alternatively, it is a legacy raster image created by the obsolete Micrografx Picture Publisher (now owned by Corel), a Yamaha Keyboard Expansion Pack, or a PlayStation Patch Format file used in retro game modding.

The major disadvantage of a .PPF file is this extreme fragmentation. Without knowing the exact source, opening it is frustrating. Micrografx files use a proprietary Microsoft Compound structure requiring decades-old software. Yamaha files are locked and useless on a standard PC unless loaded into the official Yamaha Expansion Manager. CIP3 print files require specialized prepress software like PressPerCent.

If you need to access the data, conversion is highly dependent on the file's origin. Micrografx .PPF images must be converted to standard JPG or PNG formats. CIP3 print files are often converted to PDF or PS (PostScript) to preview printing layouts. Game patches cannot be converted at all; they must be applied to an ISO disk image.

Standard online converters usually fail to process .PPF files because they guess the format based solely on the file extension. If our analysis detects a supported underlying container - such as an embedded ZIP used by MyGo qPCR cyclers or legacy image headers - viewing and conversion may still be possible.

Convert.Guru analyzes your PPF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, PPTX, CPF, PPI, PPS, PFF, JPG, PPM, ZIP, PPT, CPT, PNG and SF2 files.

The PPF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PPF converter.
