About PM6 files

The .PM6 file is a legacy page layout document created by Adobe PageMaker version 6, which was released in 1995. These files store formatted text, embedded or linked images, and vector graphics using a Microsoft Compound (OLE) container format structure. Historically, these documents were used for professional desktop publishing, including newsletters, brochures, and books.

.PM6 is a dead, proprietary format. Adobe discontinued PageMaker entirely in 2004. Modern layout software, including current versions of Adobe InDesign, cannot open .PM6 files natively. To open them organically, you would need to run outdated operating systems (like Windows 98 or Mac OS 9) or track down legacy copies of InDesign CS6 or earlier. This effectively locks your archived layouts behind obsolete technology and makes sharing them impossible.
