About P65 files

The .P65 file is a legacy desktop publishing document created by Adobe PageMaker version 6.5. These files store formatted text, embedded raster graphics, vector graphics, and precise page layout data used for printing newsletters, brochures, and books in the late 1990s. Under the hood, they utilize the Microsoft Compound File Binary format to structure the data.

Officially, these files were opened using Adobe PageMaker 6.5 or 7.0. Later, early versions of Adobe InDesign (up to CS6) included a built-in import filter to migrate PageMaker documents. Modern InDesign CC versions have dropped this support entirely.

You need to convert this file because PageMaker is highly obsolete. The software was discontinued in 2004 and cannot run natively on modern 64-bit Windows or macOS systems. Opening a .P65 file today is a major technical challenge, often requiring virtual machines running Windows XP or expensive third-party conversion plugins. Keeping files in this proprietary, unsupported format guarantees permanent data loss as legacy hardware dies.
