A .p65 file is a layout document created with Adobe PageMaker 6.5, a once-dominant desktop publishing program that has been discontinued since 2004. These files utilize a proprietary binary structure (often based on Microsoft Compound File storage) to store text formatting, page layers, linked images, and print settings. Because Adobe replaced PageMaker with Adobe InDesign, .p65 files are now considered obsolete legacy data.
The biggest challenge with .p65 files is accessibility; modern software, including the latest versions of Adobe InDesign (Creative Cloud), cannot open them directly without legacy conversion tools or intermediate file formats like PMD.
