About PL files
A .PL file is heavily fragmented across different industries, most commonly serving as a text-based source code script for the Perl or Prolog programming languages. However, enterprise systems frequently use the .PL extension for completely different data types, including disguised PDF documents, zipped telemetry station configurations from LACROIX Sofrel, and exported TV user channel lists for Samsung televisions. You can open text-based .PL files with code editors like Visual Studio Code, but binary variants require specific software like Adobe Acrobat Reader. The primary disadvantage of the .PL format is extension collision. Because so many different programs claim the extension, operating systems rarely know how to open it correctly. Double-clicking a .PL file often results in a generic error or opens a heavy binary file in a simple text editor, causing crashes and displaying unreadable characters. Furthermore, raw scripts are not user-friendly for non-developers and lack visual formatting for sharing. To solve these issues, you need to convert based on the file's internal structure. For sharing and archiving source code, convert to PDF or HTML. If the file is internally a document, convert it directly to a standard PDF or DOCX format.
Convert.Guru analyzes your PL file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The PL Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our PL converter.
