About PERL files
A .perl file is a source code script written in the Perl programming language. Originally designed for text manipulation, Perl is heavily used for system administration, network programming, and legacy CGI web applications. You can open and edit these files using specialized text editors like Visual Studio Code or Notepad++. To actually execute the code, you must install the Perl Interpreter on your operating system. Because it contains raw code, non-developers cannot easily read or utilize this format. Windows and macOS do not natively know how to open .perl files without manual configuration, often throwing an annoying 'How do you want to open this file?' prompt. Furthermore, opening a script on a system without the interpreter installed renders the file completely useless for execution. The best workaround for sharing is converting the .perl file to standard document formats. Convert to TXT for safe, readable sharing without triggering antivirus warnings. Convert to PDF to freeze the code for documentation or printing, or HTML to display the syntax with formatting. Executable scripts pose security risks, making them difficult to share via email.
