Convert a file to REC
To convert other file formats to the "Replay and Recording File" file type, you need software like Rainbow Six Siege or a similar tool.
About REC files
A .REC file most commonly contains a match replay from the tactical shooter Rainbow Six Siege. It can also function as a video recording from a Topfield PVR set-top box, a keyboard and mouse macro created by software like TinyTask or JitBit, or an orphaned file fragment recovered by the Linux fsck disk utility. Users frequently encounter massive frustration when trying to handle these files because the extension is shared across completely unrelated platforms.
The biggest disadvantage of the Rainbow Six Siege replay format is that it is strictly proprietary telemetry data, not actual video. You cannot play it in standard media players, and it completely breaks every time the game receives a major update. Topfield PVR .REC video files, on the other hand, are clunky, outdated transport streams that exceed several gigabytes and refuse to play natively in modern web browsers or mobile devices. For recovered fsck fragments, the operating system strips the original file extension, leaving users guessing whether the file is a JPG image, a DOCX document, or useless corrupted data.
To overcome these limits, Topfield PVR videos should be converted to MP4 or MKV for universal playback and smaller file sizes. For fsck recovery fragments, you need a hex analyzer to read the file headers and restore the correct extension. You cannot directly convert a Siege replay to a video file - you must screen-record it in-game. Drop your file here to analyze and convert it - free, online, and without installing software.
