The .PBB file extension is primarily used for legacy phonebook backups generated by software like Nokia PC Suite or older AT&T contact management tools. These files store address book data, including names, numbers, and basic contact details. A secondary use for the .PBB extension is as a proprietary embroidery design file created by Tajima Pulse Microsystems, as well as a robotics design build file in Protobot software.
The main disadvantage of the .PBB format is its obsolete and proprietary nature. Legacy Nokia software is defunct and replaced by modern cloud synchronization, leaving users with backup files that cannot be imported into modern Android, iOS, or Google Contacts. Similarly, Pulse embroidery files require expensive, specialized software to open or send to embroidery machines. Users must convert contact archives to standard VCF (vCard) or CSV formats, while embroidery users need universal stitch files like DST or PES.
This file format is exceptionally difficult to open or convert because the internal data is serialized and locked to the original software. Standard online converters routinely fail to process it.
