About ASV files
An .ASV file is predominantly an Auto-Save File generated by technical applications like MATLAB or music notation software like Finale. These files act as a critical safety buffer, automatically capturing your work - whether it is algorithms or musical scores - at set intervals to prevent data loss during system crashes.
The biggest challenge with .ASV files is their lack of direct usability; operating systems rarely associate them with the correct host application, leaving users with an "unknown file" icon. For MATLAB users, an .ASV is essentially a snapshot of your M source code that cannot be executed until it is converted or renamed. Similarly, Finale users must revert the extension to MUSX to access their score. A distinct minority of these files are Selective Color presets used by Adobe Photoshop, which are proprietary settings files rather than backups.
To restore access to your data, you should convert the file based on its origin. For MATLAB scripts, convert to M to execute the code, or to TXT and PDF for easy viewing, printing, and archiving without needing a math license. For Photoshop settings, these are best managed within the Adobe ecosystem.
Convert.Guru analyzes your ASV file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert ASV file to BAK, BACKUP, OLD, TMP, TEMP, ARC, ZIP, TAR, GZ, 7Z, RAR or ISO, you can use MATLAB or similar software from the "Automatic Backup File" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….
To convert SNAPSHOT, OLD, IMG, RESTORE, ISO, COPY, VMDK, TMP, VHD, BAK, ARCHIVE or BACKUP files to ASV, try MATLAB or another comparable tool in the "Automatic Backup File" category.
The ASV Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our ASV converter.
