About OMOD files
The .OMOD file extension is most frequently associated with the Oblivion Mod Manager (OBMM), a legacy utility used to install modifications for the role-playing game The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. These files are essentially proprietary compressed archives - structurally similar to ZIP files - that encapsulate game assets like textures (DirectDraw Surface), 3D meshes (Gamebryo NIF), and configuration scripts. While efficient for the time, the .OMOD format now presents a significant barrier to entry; it effectively "locks" mod content inside a container that modern managers like Vortex or Mod Organizer 2 may not natively support without plugins. Users often find themselves unable to inspect the file contents, manually patch textures, or combine mods without reinstalling the outdated OBMM software.
To bypass these restrictions, the most practical solution is converting the .OMOD archive into a standard ZIP or 7Z file. This allows for immediate extraction and manipulation of the internal assets without specialized tools. Once converted to a standard archive, the internal assets (such as DDS images or NIF models) can be further converted to modern formats like PNG or OBJ for editing. In rarer cases (approx. 16% of files), an .OMOD may be a binary 3D model file used by games like Omerta - City of Gangsters or titles running on the Perfect World Angelica Engine. For these specific files, the goal is converting the proprietary geometry into universal 3D formats like FBX or OBJ for use in Blender or Autodesk 3ds Max.
Convert.Guru analyzes your OMOD file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert OMOD file to EXE, ISO, BIN, CUE, PAK, WAD, PK3, PK4, BSP, MAP, SAV or DAT, you can use Oblivion Mod Manager or similar software from the "Game Mod Archive" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The OMOD Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our OMOD converter.
