About NCF files

The .NCF file extension is a notorious source of confusion because it is used by over a dozen different incompatible software ecosystems. While most commonly associated with Advanced Fire Systems network configurations or Agilent NovoExpress data, strictly defining the file requires inspecting its internal header. Users frequently encounter these files without the expensive, proprietary software required to open them - such as GibbsCAM for CNC machining or NetCAD for GIS mapping.

This format fragmentation creates significant accessibility barriers. For example, NovoExpress files are essentially SQLite databases containing flow cytometry experiment data, yet they appear as opaque binaries to standard system tools. Similarly, Advanced Fire Systems files may be ZIP-compressed archives that users simply want to inspect but cannot access without specialized utilities.

The NCF Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our NCF converter.
