About MWB files
The .MWB file is a database modeling and design document created by MySQL Workbench. It stores relational database schemas, tables, views, routines, and visual Enhanced Entity-Relationship (EER) diagrams. Because it is a proprietary format, it has major disadvantages for collaboration. Users who do not have MySQL Workbench installed cannot view the database structure. Furthermore, .MWB files cannot be natively imported by other database management systems like PostgreSQL or Microsoft SQL Server. Users frequently need to convert .MWB to SQL to actually deploy the database, or to PDF and PNG to share the visual diagrams with stakeholders. This file format is difficult to convert because it is not a plain text script; it is actually a compressed ZIP archive containing complex XML files and embedded images. Standard online converters fail to parse the relational logic stored inside the XML. To properly generate a database creation script, you usually need the original software to 'Forward Engineer' the schema.
