About MV files

The .mv file extension is a highly fragmented format with several completely different technical uses. Most frequently, it acts as a Move language compiled module, representing smart contract bytecode used on the Aptos and Sui blockchains. Alternatively, it may contain a zipped animation used by the game engine RPG Maker MV, an MVStore file for the H2 Database Engine, or legacy Silicon Graphics (SGI) video data.

Because .mv files lack a single standardized structure, opening them requires knowing their exact origin. Developer files require blockchain SDKs, RPG Maker files require specific game engines, and H2 databases require Java SQL tools. Often, mobile users encounter .mv files generated by Google Pixel phones as Motion Photos, which are actually standard MP4 videos in disguise. This fragmentation makes offline handling incredibly frustrating for the average user.
