About DBM files

A .DBM file typically represents a physical data model created by IBM InfoSphere Data Architect, storing schema definitions in an XML format. These files are critical for designing database structures but require specialized, expensive enterprise software to view or edit visually. Users often struggle with .DBM files because they are not natively supported by standard text editors or web browsers, making it difficult to share schema designs with stakeholders who lack access to IBM's ecosystem. Beyond data modeling, the .DBM extension is heavily fragmented: it serves as machine data for Okuma and Fanuc CNC controllers, channel lists for ALI Corp satellite receivers, and even proprietary audio containers for games like Metal Gear Solid. This ambiguity is a common problem; a user might try to open a binary CNC file in a text editor, resulting in garbled data. To resolve these compatibility issues, specific conversion targets are recommended based on the file's origin: convert IBM data models to SQL scripts for deployment or PDF/PNG for documentation; transcode game audio to MP3 or WAV for playback; and parse CNC or satellite data into CSV or TXT for human-readable analysis.

Convert.Guru analyzes your DBM file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted BMP, BDM, DBML, MDB, DB, PDF, DMP, T65, AGLDEI, EPS, MW, W and DBI files.

The DBM Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our DBM converter.
