About VLC files
A .VLC file is typically a media playlist or shortcut used by the open-source VLC Media Player, rather than a self-contained video file like MP4 or MKV. Think of it as a "map" that tells the player where to find the music or movies - whether they are stored on your hard drive or streamed from the web. Because these files are essentially text-based pointers (often just a few KB in size), you cannot directly upload a .VLC file to YouTube, edit it in Adobe Premiere Pro, or play it on a standard TV. In some cases, a .VLC file may also represent a partial media download (an incomplete MP4) or an ACUCOBOL-GT license file. To make the content usable, you typically need to convert the playlist to a standard format like M3U, or - if your goal is to share the actual video - download the source stream and save it as a standard MP4 file.
