It was historically created and managed by the Mozilla Archive Format add-on for Mozilla Firefox.
Today, the .MAFF format is completely obsolete. The original Firefox add-on became unsupported when Firefox transitioned to the modern WebExtensions API in 2017. Modern web browsers do not natively support opening .MAFF files, forcing users to rely on outdated browser builds or clunky third-party extraction workflows. It remains a proprietary, dead-end format compared to the widely accepted MHTML standard.
