About MAFF files
The .MAFF (Mozilla Archive Format) file is a legacy web archive format originally designed to save complete webpages - including HTML, CSS, images, and scripts - into a single compressed file. Unlike standard HTML saves that create a messy folder of assets, .MAFF utilizes ZIP compression to keep everything contained. While this was convenient for users of older versions of Mozilla Firefox, the format suffers from significant obsolescence issues.
Mozilla discontinued native support for MAFF with the release of Firefox Quantum (version 57+) in 2017, rendering these files difficult to open in modern browsers like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Users often find themselves locked out of their archived content because no current mainstream browser supports the format natively. To access the data, you generally need to treat the file as a generic archive or convert it. For long-term preservation and easy viewing, we recommend converting .MAFF to PDF (for static reading) or extracting it to standard HTML folders. If you simply need the images or text inside, renaming the extension to ZIP allows you to extract the raw assets, though the page structure may be broken without proper conversion.
Convert.Guru analyzes your MAFF file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

The MAFF Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our MAFF converter.
