To convert other file formats to the "Proprietary Application Data" file type, you need software like CRA Webforms or a similar tool.
A .WBF file primarily functions as a Canadian tax return data file generated by Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) Webforms, or as a WebEx Whiteboard session file used by Cisco Webex. It is also occasionally used as a project file for the Webflow site builder. You need specific software to open these files natively. For tax data, the CRA Webforms portal or compatible Java-based tax software is required. For whiteboard sessions, only the Cisco WebEx meeting client can render the annotations properly.
The .WBF format is highly proprietary and fragmented. Its main disadvantage is that it locks your data into a specific, closed ecosystem. You cannot natively view a tax return or a WebEx whiteboard in a standard web browser or document viewer. Sharing these files directly with others without the original software often results in an unsupported file type error. You typically need to convert .WBF files to standard formats for sharing. Tax returns and whiteboards should be exported to PDF. WebEx annotations can also be exported to PNG or JPG for image viewing. Webflow projects are usually exported as standard HTML and CSS. Keep in mind that converting a dynamic whiteboard session to a static PDF will permanently lose any interactive drawing history.
Because these are closed, proprietary formats, standard online converters fail to process them. Often, only the original software can properly read or export the data.
