About T2K files

The .T2K extension is a classic example of a filename collision, utilized by three distinct software ecosystems, creating significant confusion for users trying to open or convert them.

First and most commonly, it serves as a Software License Key or Soundbank for Tone2 Audiosoftware products like ElectraX, Gladiator, or Saurus. These are proprietary, encrypted binary files designed solely to authorize software or load synthesizer presets. A major source of friction here is that users attempt to "open" these keys in a text editor or media player, resulting in garbled code or errors. These files are not meant to be converted; doing so will render the license invalid.

Secondly, in the engineering field, .T2K represents a Structural Analysis Text File used by Computers and Structures, Inc. (CSI), specifically for SAP2000. Unlike the Tone2 keys, these are plain text (often formatted similarly to tables) used to define model geometry and loads. Engineers often need to convert these into the binary .S2K format for faster processing or to XLSX for data manipulation, as the raw text format can be cumbersome to edit manually without syntax highlighting.

Finally, the extension is used by Teach2000, a vocabulary trainer. These are XML-based files containing quiz data. While useful within the app, users often find themselves locked in and need to convert these .T2K files to CSV or TXT to migrate their flashcards to other platforms like Anki or Quizlet.

For Tone2 files, keep them as-is. For SAP2000 and Teach2000 files, converting to Text, Excel, or XML formats allows for greater accessibility and editing capabilities.

Convert.Guru analyzes your T2K file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.

Users also converted PDF, GFT, IVT and UXD files.

The T2K Converter Story

The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our T2K converter.
