Convert a file to LSQ
To convert other file formats to the "Survey Question File" file type, you need software like LimeSurvey or a similar tool.
About LSQ files
The .LSQ file is a survey data export generated by LimeSurvey, a popular open-source survey tool. These files are used to save, share, and transfer individual survey questions, including the raw text, answer options, and conditional logic embedded within the question.
Primarily, these files are designed to be imported directly back into LimeSurvey. They function as a modular way for survey administrators to build question banks and move specific items between different questionnaires without recreating them from scratch.
The main disadvantage of the .LSQ format is its strict reliance on LimeSurvey's internal database schema. Without an active installation of the software, you cannot easily render or visualize the question as a participant would see it. Standard online document converters fail to process this format because it is an application-specific XML data dump rather than a visual document.
For most users, the best conversion targets are structural formats like XML, TXT, or JSON. Converting to these formats strips away the proprietary file extension and allows developers to parse the question data using standard text editors. However, be aware that complex survey logic and presentation styling will be lost outside of the native environment.
This file format is difficult to convert into clean, formatted text because the internal data relies entirely on LimeSurvey's interpretation rules. Often, only the original software can properly read, execute, or export the data into a human-readable format. Just drag and drop your file to identify the format, view it, and convert it when possible. Since our analysis detects the supported underlying XML structure, viewing the raw text and internal content of your .LSQ file is still fully possible.
Convert.Guru analyzes your LSQ file, detects the exact format, and lets you read the text inside.
If you want to convert LSQ file to CSV, JSON, XML, YAML, YML, TOML, INI, CFG, CONF, DAT, DB or SQL, you can use LimeSurvey or similar software from the "Survey Question Export" category. In the File menu, look for Save As… or Export….

The LSQ Converter Story
The history of Convert.Guru began over 25 years ago in California with Tom Simondi’s file-format database. A former contributor to Space Shuttle development and a software pioneer of the 1980s, Simondi established a trusted resource for file type analysis that was even referenced by Microsoft Windows XP. Today, we use modern technology to process and convert thousands of file formats while continually improving our LSQ converter.
